Giving the Robbers a Leg-Up
Some people choose to have alarm systems for their home, while others opt for a more physical barrier between themselves and potential robbers. Judging by this gate, we can only assume that the person who lives here decided to go for the latter option. Or should we say ladder option? After all, the person who bought this gate essentially offered the robbers a leg up and over the gate and into their property!
This person might as well stick up a sign that reads "Come in and steal all my belongings!" on this gate. Unless the robbers are afraid of heights, of course.
Hang on a Minute...
At first glance, this doesn't look too bad. This just looks like a nervous hardware store owner looking to protect their stock from petty thieves, right? Well, we think the store owner probably should have thought about their security measures a little bit more. After all, bolt cutters are famously known for being able to cut through thick chains with ease - so they're basically asking their thieves to try out the merchandise before they steal it!
Yes, this security measure is a little silly, but it's a little poetic when you think about it. This whole scene is a full-circle moment, and it's pretty beautiful. In a warped way.
Reminder: Regularly Change Your Code
There are so many different home security systems out there, and some of you are probably pretty familiar with keypads. By using this, you don't have to remember your key; you just need to remember a pin code! But if ever you needed a reminder to regularly switch up and change your code, this is it. After all, it's pretty obvious that this person has been using the same code for way too long.
As if that wasn't enough, it also seems as though they haven't been very creative with their code as they used their house number! Let's just hope that the person who lives here has house insurance.
At Least They Tried
If you work in a shared office, you'll know how irritating it is. Yep, there's nothing worse than someone stealing your favorite mug or finishing off the last of your special cookies! But what can you do about it? Well, this person decided to take matters into their own hands and protect their stash using their own homemade security system. With only a few paper clips and some paper to hand, this is what they made.
If you're holding your face in your hands right now, you're not alone! Congrats to this person for trying, but we have a feeling that their biscuits are long gone now. Poor guy.
What a Pretty Gate
The thing with home security systems is that you can't just buy something and be done with it. Sure, it's super easy to buy a security gate and install it at the front of your property. But if you haven't prepared the area around the security gate for its installation, then it's a huge waste of money! Someone should have told these guys that - unless they've secretly installed invisible security lasers above those small bushes.
Anyone could step over that little patch of garden in no time, so we don't think this property is at risk of a break-in. They're at risk of a step-in, because it really would be that easy!
A Wheely Bad Security System
There are so many things to protect in this world. From your property to the belongings in your home, everything needs to be insured. But what about when you leave the house? If you're someone who rides a bike, you'll know the importance of locking it up somewhere safe and secure where it won't easily be stolen. However, it seems as though the owner of this bike didn't quite get that memo.
Kudos to them for at least locking their bike up to something, but maybe they should have given this a bit more of their attention? Anyone who wants this bike can just lift up the sign, and voila!
"Heeeeere's Home Intruders! "
Is anyone else getting some serious Jack Nicholson vibes from this one? At first, it might seem a little confusing, but when you really get down to the nitty-gritty of this photo you realize just how much of a privacy fail it really is. That's because spy holes are meant to help you create a barrier between your front door and the world outside. By using one, you can see who is outside without them seeing you. Most of the time, anyway.
On this occasion, it seems as though the inclusion of the spy hole is pretty pointless. Even if you try and sneak up on a robber, you won't do a very good job!
A Cut Above the Rest
There's nothing more irritating than someone taking your stuff again and again. Sure, they don't have any ill intent when it comes to borrowing your paperclips or your scissors - but why can't they just bring them back when they're finished?! In a way, we can understand what this person has done. They wanted to protect their scissors, so they created a security system that would work for their purpose. Or so they thought.
In their haste to protect their scissors, this person obviously forgot the main purpose of scissors. And how easy it is for scissors to cut through some thread. At least they tried.
Does Red Mean Go?
Uh-oh, someone forgot to measure the hallway when they were ordering this security gate! We can only assume that this gate was supposed to cover the entire width of this hallway, stopping anyone who wasn't authorized to be there in their tracks. But, if anything, they've just made the whole process even more annoying - especially for the people bumping their hips on the gate every time they try and get to class.
You have to laugh, though. That red cross is trying to do so much, but ultimately doing so little! Unless red means go instead of stop? That would certainly make more sense.
Does a Little Really Do a Lot?
Fences are super important when it comes to security. For big buildings such as school campuses, office blocks, and apartment buildings, alarm systems sometimes just don't cut it - which is where fences come into play. They're more of a visual deterrent than anything else, but we can't help but think that this poor excuse of a fence isn't even that. In fact, we didn't even realize it was there to begin with!
This tiny fence didn't get the memo from the tree that it was supposed to grow as big as the pole. And from the looks of it, someone could simply walk under there with ease.
Sharing Really Isn't Caring
While most office buildings offer their employees shared mugs, utensils, and cutlery, some people in this world prefer a more personal touch when it comes to their morning coffee - and we don't blame them! So, they take a mug from home into the office and stash it in the cupboard when they're not using it. Unfortunately, some sneaky office burglars take this as an invitation to use it themselves, and that's just not on.
The owner of this yellow mug obviously thought the same, which is why they went to great lengths to protect their mug at all costs. Sorry, Dave, you'll have to use the floral mug next time!
A Stone Cold Security System
From alarm systems to CCTV cameras, there are so many home security options out there. In fact, some even protect their homes with guard dogs! But have you ever heard of this guard man? This 'Stone Cold' security system was put in place by a young child obviously intent on keeping the robbers away. And we have to admire their creativity. Steve Austin does have a history of kicking the bad guys to the curb.
In reality, we're not sure how effective this security measure will measure up to some of the more legitimate systems. But at least the home owners get something hunky to look at when they return home.
Form Over Function
This picture seems to pose one of the biggest ethical dilemmas the human race has ever faced: what makes a gate a gate? Some would say that the picture below is a gate, while others would say that its tiny form renders it useless. But if you're asking us, we have a feeling that the guy booked to build this gate just needed to get home early. They had a dentist appointment to get to.
Either that or this useless gate was protecting a tiny little snail on a tiny little patch of grass behind it. Whatever the answer, we don't think we'll be using this security system in our homes!
"Yep, That'll Do It"
It's fair to say that most people don't enjoy working. They work to live, and don't live to work - and while many employees will do what's asked of them, they might not do it to the best of their ability. We can only assume that this person was ready to go home when they were asked to put a security tag on this electronic tool. Sure, they did the job. But did they do the job well? Nope.
Any thief could come along and take the tag off without a second thought, which is a major win for the robber. After all, electronic tools cost a lot of money, you know!
One Person's Trash Is Another's Treasure
Every homeowner has their own requirements when it comes to protecting their home. They buy insurance to cover the whole property, they use alarm systems to protect the exterior doors, and they might even buy cameras for the inside. But it seems as though some people also like to protect their trash cans. Don't believe us? Just check this out. This steel gate is pretty intense, all for just a few garbage cans!
And while we appreciate this person's devotion to their trash, we can't help but think that any willing trash thief will simply walk around the side and through that gap. One man's trash is another's treasure, after all!
Don't. Drop. The. Keys.
Wow, we're sweating just thinking about this security fail. Let's hope that whoever lives here has a steady hand, as one clumsy move would see their house keys falling down the drain and being lost forever! And while this is perhaps one of the weirdest security measures we've ever seen, we can kind of understand the logic behind it. That's because thieves probably get pretty nervous, right? And this means they have shaky hands.
Although whoever lives here can probably get in and out of their house with ease, nervous robbers might drop all of their tools into the abyss. And that's certainly a good thing!
Big Brother Is Definitely Watching
It's no secret that airport security is pretty tight. From the TSA agents to the X-ray machines and CCTV cameras, everyone expects intense security systems in these airports. And anyone who has stress sweated their way through JFK will know that security there is no joke. But did you know it was this legit? On one column we can count a whopping 14 cameras - and we can't even see the other side of it!
We can't help but think that this is a little excessive, but we guess airport security experts know what they're doing. That's why they're paid the big bucks, after all.
Hotel Room of Nightmares
When you stay in a hotel, you put your security needs in the hands of others. You trust that they'll be able to protect you and that each room has its own security system in place to keep you and your belongings safe. But what would you do if you entered the room and saw this? Well, it's safe to say that we'd be packing our bags back up and asking for the manager straight away!
This door lock should act as an extra barrier between you and potential intruders, but with one key component broken off, it's rendered useless. Although, the fact it's been broken off is a red flag in itself.
Glad That Gate Is There
The main aim of any gate is to block people from what's on the other side of it. Sometimes this is a private house, but in other cases, it's private land full of animals. And if getting trampled by a cow isn't on your trump card for this year, you might want to take heed of these gates! But the farmer behind this gate has some serious questions to answer. First of all; what the heck?!
This gate did absolutely nothing, apart from being a funny photo op for this hiker. If anything, it probably made them even more determined to go past the gate and into the unknown.
When Christmas Comes First
Sure, security is important. But is it as important as getting into the Christmas spirit? Well, it seems as though the people who live or work in this building certainly didn't seem to think so. When the festive period was approaching, they were going to put up their decorations whether the security team wanted them to or not. Who cares if the baubles cover the CCTV camera, hey? They didn't, that's for sure.
Considering most home invasions happen during the Christmas period, some would say that this was a little silly on their part. But the baubles look cute, so every cloud has a silver lining!
Just Don't Open the Gate
There's something about this gate that's particularly ominous. We don't know whether it's the big and bold sign warning you to keep the gate closed or the giant lock and chain that's attached to it, but we understand that we shouldn't open the gate. That doesn't mean that we don't want to break the rules, though! With all of that open space around it, it's just asking us to rebel.
All in all, this gate is pretty useless, but we're not going to tell it that. We feel a little sorry for it, actually. It looks sad and lost. And we bet robbers will take advantage of that.
Handling Bike Security Properly
There are two kinds of people in this world; those who have common sense, and those that don't. Judging by this poor attempt at bike security, we can only assume that the person who locked up their bike here is part of the latter category. And if you haven't figured out why just yet, you might be part of that latter category, too! Yes, this bike is basically just asking to be stolen.
We're not sure who told this person that they should lock up the handle of their bicycle, but that information is probably useless now, anyway. They no longer have a bike, after all.
Think About What You've Done
If you've ever bought a security camera to protect your home, you'll know that it's one of the most expensive security systems you can buy. Because of this, it's important that you know how to get the most out of your investment - and the only thing you really need to know is that this isn't how you do that! We're not sure what this camera did to deserve such punishment, but it's been forced to turn to the wall and think about what it did.
Of course, this might teach the camera a lesson, but we have a feeling that it definitely won't catch any thieves in the act! Instead, it's giving them free rein to do whatever they want.
Getting Locked up
Let's be honest; being a human is pretty expensive. From rising rent prices to the extortionate price of gas, it's no wonder that people are starting to ride their bicycles everywhere. Yep, even the police are doing it! But it seems as though this police officer just wasn't paid enough to buy a legitimate lock for their bicycle, so they had to improvise. And if you want our opinion; this is genius.
This puts a whole new meaning to getting "locked up" and you have to admire the ingenuity of this police officer. This isn't a security fail, this is a security win!
"Hey, Come in and Take Our Things! "
Would you believe that this sign is on the door of a children's daycare center?! No, we couldn't believe it, either. Many parents choose their child's daycare based on reviews and safeguarding protocols, and we can't help but think this should be a major red flag. After all, it wouldn't take a lot for the manager to simply send out a group email to the parents with the door code on it!
Instead, they decided to share the door code with the whole world. They're basically just asking the robbers to steal the Play-Doh and the beanbags. It's time to call your insurance people, daycare owner!
You Will Never Break the Chain
Now we know what Fleetwood Mac was talking about when they sang "You will never break the chain." This song isn't about love or the falling apart of relationships; it's about this car right here! But we do have to say that this is one of the strangest car security systems out there. Normally, most people have an alarm system that sounds when someone tries to break in. This is totally different, though.
We can't help but think we'd prefer an obnoxious car alarm to this thing right here. Not only is it ugly, but you've also got to remember another key to make sure you can open it when you're ready to drive off!
Two for the Price of One
The person who owns this bike definitely has their priorities in check when it comes to their safety. Not only do they want to keep their bicycle safe from harm, but they also want to keep their shoes safe as well. Of course, we totally understand that. Everyone has their own priorities! But if they loved these two things so much, why didn't they lock these things to anything other than each other?
Sure, this cyclist attached their bike to their shoes to ensure that they didn't get separated - but that bike is just propped up on the floor! Anyone could wheel that away in seconds.
You Had One Job!
Hotel rooms are pretty great when it comes to security. Normally, each door has its own deadlock, and then some of them have this extra lock screwed into the wall for good measure. That's what this hotel room was supposed to have, and there's no denying that it does have one. But will it work? Absolutely not. The handyman in charge of fitting this definitely needs to be fired. It's not even close.
There's basically no need for this to be on the door when it's like this. And while we appreciate the hotel for trying to put safety first, this is a serious fail.
So Close, but yet so Far
We can totally get what this person was thinking when they did this. After all, it's important to put a security system in place when it comes to your expensive bicycle. The last thing you want is someone stealing your bike when you're in a rush to get home after work! And while this bike owner thought they were doing what they should have done by locking up their wheels, they failed miserably.
By attaching the lock to the handlebars, a thief could slide the bike off the lock in seconds! People really are out here making it easy for robbers, aren't they?
Welcome to the World's Car
Okay, we're not going to jump to conclusions here. While there's no doubt about the fact this person has taken their perfectly good car with a perfectly good security system and turned it into something that anyone could open from the outside, we don't know the circumstances here. Perhaps they live in a commune where they share the car? Or perhaps they're just a doofus who didn't realize what they were doing.
Of course, if this security system works for this person, then who are we to judge? But also, who are they to judge the people that try and steal their car?
Do You Know How They Work?
Many stores take extra measures when it comes to the security of their stock, and we don't blame them. For many store owners, their stock is their livelihood, and they want to protect it at all costs! But we can't help but feel as though this owner should have done a little more research on the products they were locking up when they put this extra security system in place.
One quick Google would have told them that this carabiner clip could quite literally be screwed off - which makes the security tag at the end pretty useless. Oh, well. At least they tried.
Feeling a Little Blue About This
We love the color blue of this bollard, but there's no doubt about the fact that the owner of this bike is going to be feeling blue soon. After all, their bike probably got stolen! And if we're being totally honest; we wouldn't even blame the thief for trying their luck. They probably didn't even have to put in a lot of thought when it came to stealing this bad boy. It was asking for it!
Although the owner of this bike may have been in a hurry, that doesn't excuse their thoughtlessness. After all, the first rule of bike security is that you should always lock your wheels to something secure!
"Come In, the Gate Does Nothing"
Sure, home insurance is great. But if you want to catch robbers out before they get into your house, security systems such as alarms and gates can work wonders. However, if you are looking for a security gate, try not to do what this homeowner has done! After all, they probably spend hundreds of dollars on this gate - but the end result is worthless. Even the most stupid of thieves could get past this!
Having a gate just isn't enough in today's day and age. Especially as everyone thinks they're a parkour expert nowadays. Somebody would probably break in here and put it on YouTube.
Getting All Fired Up
We have so many questions about this one. First of all, why does this person have so many BBQ grills? Sure, we love barbecued chicken as much as the next person, but four giant grills? That seems a bit excessive. And our second question is, do they not realize that their "security system" is doing absolutely nothing? We're going to assume that they didn't realize that, otherwise they wouldn't have made this epic mistake.
Of course, it takes a niche kind of thief to steal four giant bbq grills, but we're sure there's someone out there willing to lift the lock off the yellow pole. It's as easy as that.
An Underage Drinker's Paradise
Although people love to put security measures up in their houses, businesses also do the same thing. In fact, you might have been to a club that had an entrance just like this one! The aim of this turnstile is to manage the flow of traffic into the club and to stop any unwelcome visitors from getting in without being checked for ID. You know, like underage drinkers! But we can't help but think that this is an underage drinker's paradise.
This turnstile is about a meter short of being perfect, but it's that lost meter that allows for carnage. And by carnage we mean underage drinkers sneaking past the bouncer!
Don't Wanna Be All by Myself
If you're lucky enough to live in an area where there's a bit of greenery, then you should count your lucky stars every single day. After all, there's nothing better than taking in the fresh air and the sound of birds after a long day of work in the office. But what would you do if you were wandering around and came across this? It looks like a gate, but can it really be called a gate in this instance?
We're going to go ahead and answer that; no! We're not sure why this gate was put there in the first place, but it seems to be offering absolutely nothing to the surrounding area. Except for being a nuisance for cyclists.
Stop... If You Want
Barriers and gates are great for keeping thieves at bay when used correctly, but they're also perfect for crowd control. Because of this, we can't help but think that this tourist attraction was feeling a little optimistic when they were ordering their turnstiles. They wanted to think that they were super busy, but sadly, they weren't. And to make matters worse, they ordered the wrong size turnstiles for their space!
If they do see a surge in visitors anytime soon, these people could probably just barge in for free. And that's going to make the business even worse for them. Yikes.
Wanna Steal My Gas?
You probably don't need us to tell you that cars are a nightmare. While some people get lucky and buy cars that rarely have any problems with them, others are constantly asking their mechanic to fix something or another. On this occasion, one vehicle owner went to the garage asking for the mechanic to fix their broken gas tank latch. Bizarrely, they left the garage with this on their car!
While there's no doubt about the fact that this will definitely keep the gas tank latch closed, we can't help but think there should have been another way to fix this. But hey, we're no mechanic.
A Fluffy Security Guard
At first glance, you might be thinking: "Oh, these people have CCTV cameras. They're certainly on top of their security game!" But on second glance, you might notice something a little unusual about this photo. It seems as though the CCTV cameras are just a disguise for the real security officer around here. Say hello to Mr. Fluffy, the toughest security guard the world has ever seen. He may be tough, but he's mighty.
In all seriousness, this little birdy must have been pretty annoying for those looking to watch the CCTV cameras for any potential thieves. But how can you tell this cutie to move?
Not Caught in the Act
Home invasions do happen, which is why people try and get ahead of the curve to stop these thieves in their tracks. If they can't do that, they try and catch them in the act instead! One of the best ways to do this is to install security cameras on your property. But here's one piece of advice we're willing to give away for free: Always make sure your cameras are pointing out into the room!
We didn't think we'd have to give away that piece of information, but it seems as though people still aren't grasping the fact that cameras need to be facing outwards rather than toward the wall.
